Fairy Terrarium

terrarium9

My Mama loves looking through magazines to find inspirations for DIY's...for me.  She knows me so well, doesn't she?  Well, I guess while going through old Martha Stewart Magazines she saw a pretend terrarium with a fairy inside.  Perfect for a gift for one of my favorite little girls!  I found it pretty easy too as long as you have all of the materials.  Plus, you can change it up to any kind of terrarium that you want.  I can see this being a great present for anyone.  Just find the right things to put inside!

terrarium1

Materials Used:
glass container with a lid (or plastic)
styrofoam disc
artificial moss
plastic figure
various rocks
artificial flowers
artificial butterflies
newspaper for work area
E600 glue - not pictured
double pointed pins - not pictured

terrarium2
I glued the Styrofoam base on the bottom of the glass container.  It dented as I was putting it inside, but that's ok since the Styrofoam is going to be covered anyway.

terrarium3
I glued the rock on the Styrofoam and stuck the twig with a little bit of glue onto the Styrofoam.

terrarium4
Then, I glued the artificial moss and covered the Styrofoam, making sure that it is completely covered as well as the nooks and crannies and around the Styrofoam.  I used the double pointed pins just for extra security.

terrarium5
Since my plastic figure is sitting, I placed it right on the rock.

terrarium6
I added the rocks, flowers, and butterflies with glue.

terrarium7
I glued the cover of the container.

I hope you enjoyed my little tutorial.
I think I'm going to be making more of these.  Such a great way to personalize a gift.
Let me know what you think!

Week In Pictures 39.0

1  I've become quite fond of my daily snack of green juice.  Some may say MEH.  I say YUMMEH!

2  So glad I got this Cynthia Rowley top from a recent shopping trip with Lydia and Megan.  I wasn't going to get it, but after some convincing I succumbed to fellow blogger enabling.

3  Last week the big news was announced!! NKOTB is going on tour with 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men!! Holla!!  The excitement has got me giggling and screaming like I am thirteen again.  I don't know alot of the 98 Degrees songs, but don't get me started on those super dance moves NKOTB had or the harmonious doo-wops Boyz II Men sang on MTV when MTV played music videos!  Don't judge me or else I'm telling Jordan Knight!

4  Last week's temperatures went down to the twenties during the work day.  Nothing kept me warm even when I wore my thickest sweater paired with my deer antler necklace.  What gives?!

5  I suckered into posting a "throwback picture" on Instagram.  That's me with the earmuffs.  This is prior to my NKOTB days.

6  My sister sent the funniest Birthday card.  Just goes to show how she knows me so well.

7  Little pup stayed up late this weekend.  She usually doesn't sleep until we do.

8  I can't believe how early it is that the Cadbury Mini Eggs are out on the shelves this year - before Valentine's Day?  Well, I bought a mini sized bag earlier in the week.  THEN I found the mother load at Joann Fabrics this weekend!!

9  I'm working on a little project for a friend's special occasion.  I'm sure that I will be sharing with you all what will become of these pom poms.

P.S.  Thanks so much for all of the Birthday wishes from everyone: on the blog, Twitter, and Instagram.  You all made my day extra special.  Stay tuned for my exciting (age appropriate) birthday re-cap later this week.

Special Day Off

Card from my sister.  She knows me too well!
I've been M.I.A.  I know.  I think this cold weather here in the northeast is giving me blogging-lag.  Yeah, that made sense to me.  Anyway, I am celebrating my special day today.  I even took the day off from my 9-5 just because.  I just wanted to wish you all a happy Friday and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.  If you live somewhere near me...stay warm!

Week In Pictures 38.0

1  I must say that I've gotten fond of green smoothies.  I had one almost every day last week.  I usually make it before work and have it as a midday snack.  My favorite blend so far is kale, spinach, apple, banana, and coconut milk.  Do you like green smoothies?  What's your favorite recipe?

2  This week I was lucky enough to participate in project brown bag organized by Louise and Erin.  Do you remember the game "telephone"?  It's kind of like that but in a more creative and artistic way and people are a few states away.  Participants usually have the canvas for two days before sending it off to the next participant but I think I checked my mail a day late.

3  Working late sometimes can be a bummer.

4  Happy saying "well hello there" from her favorite spot; the highest point of the couch.

5  Off to the post office during my lunch break to send off my project brown bag.

6  Happy likes to play fetch early in the morning.

7  Ended the work week with a lovely last minute dinner with some fabulous blogger friends...which also ended up into a shopping trip to the nearby Marshalls.  Needless to say everyone went home with something pretty!

8  My family came to town during the weekend.  Here's Happy with my cousin's little girl.

9  Happy and I are obsessed with Pinterest.  Well since we don't have HBO anymore we can't watch the new season of Girls.  Boo!  So this is what we did Sunday night.

Side note:  Ok seriously I think I am definitely one of those people who's obsessed with their dog.  Seriously guys I can't help it.
I hope you all had a wonderful week!

CClub Generosity

It's been a little crazy this week, but I wanted to make sure to share with you all the great goodies that I received from my friend Drea of So She Writes who was my Correspondence Club partner from Septemebr to December.  Since we were partners for several months, we were able to get to know each other through our packages as well as through blog comments, instagram posts, and tweets!  She loves fashion, make up, great music, and also shares a little about her family life on her blog.  We both love the thrill of thrifting and finding a great deal!!
Thanks Drea!
journal ; initial necklace and earrings ; lipstick
note ; birthday card ; clutch

As you can see Drea went all out and even included a Birthday card.  Each item had a thoughtful note from her.  It was such a lovely package.
Below are the packages I sent to her!
By the way if you'd like to join the Correspondence Club, make sure to sign up through Star Crossed Smile.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Week In Pictures 37.0

1  Pleasantly surprised that I really loved the Yogi tea that I picked up.  I extra love the little sayings on each one.

2  I tried a kale based smoothie...that kind of looked not so appetizing (it's because of frozen cherries) but tasted pretty good.  Note to self: blend it for more than one minute next time.

3  Smoothie #2 looked better and tasted good too!! Kale, banana, apple, coconut milk, and some ice cubes...delish!

4  I got a special package from my dear #CClub pal Drea of So She Writes and it includes my first bday present of the year!

5  If you missed my last post, I answered Kira's post on Instagram, and in return I have to pay it forward to five other folks.

6  Finally accomplished a project that I pinned on Pinterest and finished it!

7  Cause I take pics of boy band dolls.  Can you tell who this guy is?

8  Went to the Asian store and had to try these "chips".  I'm disappointed I only bought one bag, but then I'm glad because they're too addicting.  Taro, sweet potato, jackfruit, banana, and pineapple chips anyone??

9  Late lunch means a late dinner of Asian sweet potato and tea for me before starting the work week again.  The countdown to my birthday begins!!

How was your week?

Pay It Forward

This week I agreed to pay it forward.  I made a commitment to make something for five people who commented on my Instagram post.  In return they must pay it forward too by posting this (or something similar) on their Instagram and making something for five other people.  I hope that the five who commented will make the same commitment that I am making this year.  I'm excited to start creating for these people and I'm sure that I'll keep you all posted!

Happy Friday and I wish you all a wonderful weekend!

Celebration Options

My big day is coming up, and I've yet to decide what I'll be doing to celebrate.  So many options came up from some of you on my last post about my Birthday month.  I really should decide soon just in case reservations should be made...or I can really just wing it.

Birthday option1
 by delachic on Polyvore
I'd be happy with some yummy pizza from my favorite pizzeria on the other side of town with some movies and a cold one...and some cake.

Birthday option2
 by delachic on Polyvore
My husband and I have been talking about going to one of the local wineries.  Maybe this would be a great opportunity to go try some CT made Pinot Grigio..and some cake.

Birthday option 3
 by delachic on Polyvore
Even though my little abode may only fit a handful of people, I could invite some friends for some apps and sangria..and some cake.

Birthda option4

Birthday time is always a great excuse to try out one of the fancy restaurants nearby.  I love itty bitty skewered meats, dim lighting, strong cocktails...and some cake.

Other options not included: karaoke, bowling, brunch, shopping, and spa time.  Honestly I'd be happy with any of the above..as long as there's you know what....cake!!

1  Happy New Year from Happy!

2  My case came in the mail finally for my iPad mini!  I finally took off the plastic wrap that it came in.  Am I the only one who does that?

3  Finally wore these tall boots, and I regretted not bringing in an extra pair of flats! AH!

4  Christmas decorations are packed up, kind of.  I think I need a bigger box.

5  Just like the stores, all of the Christmas stuff are gone and the next holiday's decorations are out.

6  Ever since the end of New Year's Eve, I've been feeling blah.  I thought that adding more green leafy veggies (kale) would be the best thing for me right now.

7  I tried this new tea and I'm surprised that I actually like it since I'm usually not to keen on fruity ones.

8  Weekend back at the gym.  Boy, was it rough!!

9  Happy has her corner back now that the Christmas tree is in storage.

Hope you all had a great week!

Sealed and Delivered

Last month I signed up to be in in Tracy and Jessica's Christmas Card Exchange.  Sending Christmas cards has always been something I enjoyed, and it was pretty exciting to get mail from other parts of the country and even Europe and Australia!  Thanks Tracy and Jessica for a great card exchange, and hopefully I'll get to participate again next year!

Nothing wrong with wishing a few shiny things for my Birthday, right?  I think I need to update my jewelry box with some classics and some standout pieces.  These are just some that caught my eye.

Birthday Month

Birthday

Besides family holidays and vacations during the year, I equally get excited during the month of January since it's my birthday month.  I'm not quite sure what I will be doing to do this year, but I know that I am going to celebrate no matter what..pretty much all month because I want to.  My birthday is going to be on a Friday this year which means that I have the opportunity to party (age appropriately) all weekend.  Any suggestions?

Week In Pictures 35.0 [New Year's Eve]

wip35
1  A Filipino pastry usually made/eaten during the holidays.  Thank goodness I have my Mama who can make these for me.

2  Prepping before the night out with homemade egg rolls from Auntie will start a party any day.

3  Fruity adult beverage made by my cousin which will make anyone think about being at a clear water and white sandy beach somewhere in the Caribbean.

4  Last minute decisions means last minute outfit prep.  When it came down to it, comfort was key.  Too bad I didn't think that way when I picked my shoes!

5  Miles and miles of slots at the casino - which I didn't touch at all.

6 Waiting in line with my sequined skirt.

7/8  Party props for the occasion given out to everyone.

9 Big stage in front of the big 2013 for everyone to see.  When I say everyone..I mean everyone at the casino.

All good things come to an end, which goes for 2012.  I rang in the new year with a last minute trip to the casino with my family with big plans of hanging out at a new lounge area.  It seemed like millions of people had the same idea.  The lines for some weak adult beverages were long, lots of elbows and other body parts being shoved because of lack of space, and standing room only with four inch heels were not as fun as we all thought but we tried to make the best of it.  Venturing off to the main DJ space would've been a great idea if the rest of the casino crowd wasn't there.  Needless to say I realized I definitely have claustrophobia...and I realized it in a BAD way.  Thank goodness my sister who is practically a nurse in May was there to get me out of there.  Phew!  At least I heard Gangnam Style before it all went down..heh.  I can laugh about it now hours later.  All of that excitement is enough for me to last a few months, but with my birthday coming up in a few weeks I might have to rest up to make sure that I have enough energy for more celebrating.  Too bad that right now all the celebrating I want is to be spent on the couch.
