Cupcakes and Cookies Oh My!

Before my sister's graduation last week, I was in search of something "sweet" to give her after the big ceremony that was something different from flowers.  Since I was in the neighborhood I stopped by Sugar Bakery to see what they had.  Plus, I can't resist stopping by to see all of the delicious cupcake flavors that they change on a daily basis.  I definitely came home with a huge bag filled with treats after my visit.

Besides the celebratory cookies for my sister, I also came home with four cupcakes for my husband: chocolate & peanut butter, chocolate mint, boston cream, and banana.  Ok, I tasted one or two to make sure they were good.  Really.

Sweet Camping

This past weekend my sister convinced me to go to the annual Cupcake Camp that was held at Bar in downtown New Haven.  If you're not sure what Cupcake Camp is, it's where all cupcake bakers - with or without a store front - can bring in cupcakes and "camp out" for two hours to share their sweet concoctions with everyone.  It is also a chance to donate for a great cause.  This year everyone was encouraged to donate to Closer to Free which is for Cancer research and patient care.  People signed up as a baker or taster, and this year my sister, husband, and I were tasters.  Amidst all of the tasting in two hours, tasters had the chance to vote for their favorite cupcake.  However, there were also judges who voted on other several categories.  Nevertheless, all three of us were up to our ears with cupcakes even though we didn't get to taste or even see all of them since we arrived an hour after the start time.  My sister and I shared all of the cupcakes, and it was still way too much for us.  We all definitely got a sugar rush in less than an hour.  It was a nice event for all lovers of cupcakes and sweets, tasters, bakers, on-lookers, and supporters.  My sister, being the baker in the family wants us to join next years camp.  It's a plan!

Cupcakery

Seriously who doesn't like cupcakes?  The small deliscous goodness packaged conveniently, dressed up in colorful nom-ness.  You're probably like..what the heck is this lady talking about?  Ok I love cupcakes especially pretty yummy ones.  I became a fan of the TLC show featuring the two sisters who started Georgetown Cupcake in where else...Georgetown (Washington, DC) and was excited to have found one of their cupcake shops.  I must say that I have become quite a connoisseur of red velvet cupcakes which is what I tried at Georgetown Cupcake while I was in Boston.  Located on the fashionable Newbery Street, the little shop definitely fit in with it's bright lights and delish cupcakes dressed up in sprinkles (jimmies?), colorful fondant, and sugary frosting.  There's something for everyone.  What's your favorite cupcake flavor?

Lovely cupcakes on display on display..each and everyday everyday....
