Last Night A DJ Saved My Life

This is show and tell time, folks.  I wanted to share a mix that my husband made himself through Mixcloud (great App and you can get it through Facebook).   I thought it was fitting to put up this mix since it's the end of the summer and the beginning of the fall season.  Time to say goodbye to hot, sweltering heat and energy draining humid days.  Time to say hello to cool crisp air and beautiful foliage.  In the meantime, let's boogie on down toward back to school season as we say tah-tah to another summer.

By the way, I'm so lucky to have such a talented hubby.  The couple who is creative together sticks together.  Awww.

Something about this song.  I don't know what it is.  Ever since I heard this song in the new series Girls on HBO the other day, I just had to get it and have been listening to it ever since.  Everyone likes a good dance song, a song to work out to while you're on the rowing machine, or just a song to listen to [and maybe sing along to or is that just me?] when you're driving in your car.

For the Ears: Karmin Before Mainstream

I saw this on Facebook probably a year ago.  Karmin - the married couple who went to Berklee College of Music in Boston started off posting videos on YouTube and now you can hear them on the radio.  I love a great story.

For the Ears: Dancing With Myself

Ever since I heard this on the show L.A. Ink I've loved this version of Dancing With Myself.  Don't get me wrong, I do like the Billy Idol version, but this gives it a different twist.  The video is also great, oui?

For the Ears: When I'm Walking...

Am I showing my age with the songs that I've been picking? hmm.  Ah well.
This song reminds me of high school when Doc Martens were cool, dying your hair a shade of Kool Aid Pink was hot, Timberlands, flannel shirts, going to the mall after school, and going to the literary magazine meeting was more important than anything (ok maybe to me that was a big deal).  It was when the days of grunge alternative and Wu-Tang in the radio waves ... not at the same time nor on the same radio station.  Also, did I mention that I saw Violent Femmes on concert?  Funny how songs bring back snippets of memories.  Then how weird is it to hear that song in a television commercial not even closely related to the song or to hear my cousin's little three year old singing the words?

For the Ears: Strike A Pose

The new Madonna CD is out.  Have you heard it yet?  The new song is catchy but I haven't really listened to it that much to develop an opinion about it.  However, I will always be a Madonna fan hands down no matter what shenanigans she gets into.  Did you see her during the Superbowl Halftime Show?  Enough said.

For the Ears: One Time

This Roberta Flack song remixed by the Fugees made the group infamous.  I remember when I went to the Fugees concert.  The thrill of hearing this song LIVE with Lauryn Hill right in front of me was amazing.  Wonder what happened to Wyclef?  What's Lauryn Hill up to now?  Pras?  Wished they'd go on a reunion tour again.... one time, one time...

For the Ears: Hurry Up...

I'm really digging this song by Midnight City.  It has that 1980's feel to it with the synthesizers.  Reminds me of Depeche Mode, my all time 1980's band.  Plus, this song was played in the cancelled show, How To Make It in America (still sad about it).  Liking the video as well...what's your take on it?

Yea, that's right.  I'm taking you back to the good 'ol days of the 1980's.  My all time favorite decade consisting of hair spray, funky belts, DeLorean, and synthesized music.  E.T. came out and The Cosby Show was a hit.  We spent our time playing Pac Man and Nintendo.  Call it "vintage" but I call it memories.

Sergio Mendez.  That's all I have to say.  This song reminds me of warm weather, sitting outside, holding a cold mojito.  It makes me happy.

For the Ears: The Hot Music

I've been listening to The Roots ever since they came out in 1995 and have been a fan ever since.  I've seen them in concert several times and they've never failed to impress me.  I'm so glad that they've withstood time and have evolved as a music group but keep what makes them different from everyone else.  Plus, I am a huge Questlove fan!
