Giving Handmade

So my friend is going to have her baby very soon.  I finally put together a little package before their bundle of joy comes.  I went to her whale themed baby shower a month ago and I figured I wanted to go along with this theme, being that it's also the nursery theme.  I sewed up some whale softies: a dark blue and polka dotted one (which were on her baby shower invites too) and ordered other handmade goodies from Etsy.  Do you like giving handmade gifts to friends and family??
Polka dotty whale handmade by me.
Dark blue whale...this one was a little trickier to sew compared to the other (for whatever reason).
Whales that color coordinate together, stick together.  Aww.
Mommy to be took a picture of the whales in the room.  So adorable!

Here Birdy Birdy

If you've been keeping up with my posts, you may already know that I love joining craft exchanges.  Especially the Craftaholics Anonymous Craft Exchange Summer 2012 hosted by Linda of Craftaholics Anonymous, who's relentless efforts always make the experience truly worthwhile for all of the participants.  This time, she's joined forces with Elfster to make the craft exchange event go smoother.  Imagine trying to match up hundreds of crafters out there with email address and mailing addresses?? Hello?! That is a job in itself.  Elfster helped her out a little bit with this event, and I think it went pretty well...well enough that I'm excited to join the next one!

My craft exchange giftee loves birds, bird houses, and accessories.  I wanted to incorporate some sewing and crocheting in my gift.  I made a hand sewn bird from the Spool Sewing website and added my own addition of the legs with floral wire.  I like how it turned out since it's able to stand on its own.  It was a pretty easy project so I made another type of bird, this time with my own owl pattern.  I added a loop on top so that it can be hung as a decoration or even an ornament.  I also made her a "delachic" signature necklace with a crochet covered wooden bead on a silver plated chain.  My giftee was very excited to receive her package and so was her little daughter!!! Mission completed!

Big shout out to the lovely Linda of Craftaholics Anonymous who single handedly organized another successful craft exchange.  I'm down for the next one coming up in November.  If you'd like to participate or see what others have crafted for their partners, please check it out and you can even get an email reminder when it's coming up!!

Etsy Love: Mo Mugs

If you know me, you know that I love to make things, read about handmade products, post about them, and buy them (it's the shopper in me). This is definitely the case when products are beautifully crafted. I also like spreading the word for my fellow Etsy sellers out there because we do stick together!
My recent handmade purchase was from The Potters Daughter.  I've been eyeing her mustache mugs for a while on Instagram to the point where I asked her to let me know when she had them in stock. Yes, you can say I was persistent.  Suzanne, the skillful potter graciously informed me when they were available, so I snatched up two mustache mugs which she calls "mo mugs". Too cute! You can see how much detail she puts in her work.
The Village Pottery Website sells household items from mugs, plates, trays, bowls to jewelry and even paintings.  The store itself has been Prince Edward Island's longest running family owned pottery shop where Suzanne's Mom has been the master potter and has handed down the throne to Suzanne.

My husband and I took the opportunity to take pictures with our matching mugs.
Can you tell that we had fun posing with our "mo mugs"!  Our poodle wanted to be in on it too.

Valentine Owl Chickies

I've been on a little hiatus from my etsy shop recently due to the holidays. That doesn't mean that I wasn't busy tinkering. Well folks due to the high demand of the owl ornaments, I've started making Valentine themed owls. These lovelies will be posted very soon in my shop. I hope that you like them!

XOXO

Peek A Boo

I've been very busy lately. Besides custom orders rolling in slowly as the weather gets colder, I've also been busy with making a few changes to keep some of my handmade designs fresh and new.  Change is good sometimes.  So here is a sneak peek of what I've made so far.
It'll be in the etsy shop very very very soon.

Staying Cozy with The Cozy Project

It's getting chilly here in New England.  We're having a weird transition into the fall season.  Along with that change, is my consumption of iced coffee to hot coffee.  One chilly morning I decided to get hot coffee, and noticed that something was missing - a cozy.  The same day, I decided to order a coffee cup cozy from The Cozy Project and picked one with an apple to go with the back to school season. I just wanted to show off what I got in the mail.  As you can see Jenny P from The Cozy Project takes the time with presenting a great package along with a little thank you note! The cozy itself is nicely made with great details all the way down to the tag inside (which I didn't take a picture of).  I'm very excited to have this in my purse so that I can use it when I get my morning cup 'o joe!

Who's afraid of the big bad wolf..and frog?

My cousin and her family were in the east coast, and it's always nice to spend time with them.  Her two children are growing up so fast.  Seems like yesterday they were little toddlers running around, now they are seven and nine year olds who pretty much can carry a well versed conversation with any adult.  When I first saw them, the youngest remembered that I had made her a monkey hat this past Christmas.  She requested that I make her a wolf hat because it's her favorite animal.  How could I say no?  So knowing that I would see them again days later, I told her that I would make it by the time I see her again.  She even designed her very own hat.  If I was going to make one a hat, of course I had to make the other a hat also! The nine year old requested a frog hat.  I managed to make them in time before they left for California.  Phew!

Someone's being silly with her new hat.

Even with the warm summer weather, they were both so happy with their hats that they wore them for most of the time we saw them during our family dinner!  This is why I love making things for people.  The happiness that it brings them is what makes me do it over and over again.
Until next time, go make something!
