Four Eyes

Nowadays glasses have become so fashionable that someone can get one without a prescription and just add some flare to their whole look!! As for me, I've been wearing glasses ever since I was in elementary school when my Mom noticed me squinting a lot while watching television.  As an adult, I've pretty much just kept my pair of glasses for several years since I use contacts most of the time.  Plus, getting glasses at the optometrist costs quite a pretty penny!  When Firmoo offered me a free pair of glasses,  I was definitely hesitant but then I looked at my lame old glasses and I pretty much jumped at the opportunity since I just got my eyes checked.  Great timing!

I like to try on my glasses in person, however, I uploaded a picture from my computer and tried on some cool glasses virtually.  I think deciding on "the one" was the toughest part because there's such a wide variety of styles.  I think I had five "favorites" before I narrowed it down to one.  I picked out this one since I thought it looked pretty good.  My glasses arrived less than two weeks after I sent my prescription.  These are pretty good quality glasses, and it came with a case, travel bag, cleaning cloth, and a repair kit.
If you're in need of some fancy schmancy glasses, sunglasses, goggles, or just cool specs you might want to try out Firmoo's first pair program where you can pick out some glasses and just pay for the shipping.  My husband also took advantage of the first pair program and they definitely delivered.

***These glasses were provided for review by Firmoo and all opinions about the product are my own.

Week In Pictures 34.0 [holiday edition]

I hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas filled with joy, laughter, and creating memories. My Christmas was spent with family which is why there were four parts of it in the span of three days. Even though the rush of getting everything ready got a little stressful, it was all worth it in the end.

1  Here's Happy posing in front of our tree with her "ugly" sweater.

2  Christmas Eve with my two cousins and sister.  We called it "Christmas, cousins, cookies, and crismoscato".

3  Christmas at my Mom's house for lunch and presents.

4 Christmas at my aunt and uncle's house for dinner and more presents.

5  Happy with my cousin's dog Sonny.

6  Christmas at my in-laws for dinner and even more presents!

Right now I'm enjoying my vacation with lots of naps, leftovers, post Christmas shopping, and lots of Duck Dynasty (yeah, I can't get enough of that show for whatever reason).  Can't believe 2012 is over in a few days! Any plans for New Years?  Have a wonderful weekend.

Made It: Holiday Wreath

wreath1
I had some extra plastic ornaments hanging around from an old wreath that I made a few years ago.  Needless to say, it pretty much fell apart when I took it out of storage and I had a whole bag of the plastic gold balls.  I've seen a lot of yarn covered ornaments all over the place, so I thought it was the next best thing to make since I had all of the materials on hand.

Materials:
plastic ball ornaments
yarn
wreath shape
1 1/2 felt strips
glue gun w/ glue sticks
wired ribbon (optional)
newspaper

wreath93

First off, make sure that you cover your work space with newspaper because it can get very messy.
I covered some of the balls with different types and colors of yarn.  You can cover them however you want, but I started a spiral in the middle of the ball and went from there.  It got a little tricky towards the end but that part of the ornament will be glued on to the wreath anyway.

I cut strips of felt and covered the wreath shape.  The wreath shape that I had was made of willow and it wasn't smooth, so adding the felt would make it easier to glue the balls on to the wreath.

wreath91

Start gluing the ornaments on the wreath making sure that the smooth part is showing.  Make sure to alternate the different types and colors of ornaments.

Once it looks like you might be done, there might be little gaps in between.
I took a piece of newspaper and made a small ball out of it and covered it with yarn.
I made a few of these "fillers" and put them wherever there were gaps on the wreath.

You can keep it simple or add a ribbon.  Since I had some glittery ribbon I used it for hanging purposes.
I also made a bow and added it on the top.

I hope that you're done with all of your crafting endeavors before the big day...or at least close to being done.  Happy Holidays!

Week In Pictures 33.0

1  I love our cruise ship ornament.  At the time I debated whether or not to get one, but now I am so happy that I purchased one to remind how fun it is to travel.  It was then when I started collecting ornaments from different places I've been to.  Do you collect certain ornaments?

2  Stopped by a local bakery and thought that these "hot cocoa" cupcakes were so adorable especially with the straw.

3  Purchased the treat of the week which were Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Triple Ginger Cookies.  I thought I'd be able to handle oh maybe one a day.  Boy was I wrong.  These delectable crunchy cookies were too good just to have one that I had to bring them to work to share with coworkers.  I'm not much of a gingerbread person, but I can pretty much eat anything covered in dark chocolate.

4  We are puppy sitting again!  Here's Happy (L) with Darling (R).

5  Saw this bush with five little birds just chillin'.

6  I'm having a tough time thinking of what to get my cousins for Christmas.  Pajama Jeans might be the way to go this year!

7  Hubby and I had a nice lunch at Cracker Barrel.  We've never been and we really enjoyed some down home American comfort food.  Since we didn't have room for dessert, taking home a whole pecan/apple pie definitely was a great decision....since it went well with a gallon of vanilla bean ice cream.  There's still some left...really...

8  Went to the downtown area and took a quick snap of the public library by the green - oh the memories of when I had to put the books in the correct order when I was in high school.

9  Enjoyed the view of the Christmas tree on the green.

Take the Time

Just wanted to take this time to remember those who lost their lives during the tragic event at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14, 2012.

Let us take the time to spend time with our families and friends, hug those that are close to us, and say "I love you" a little more than usual and maybe just do a good deed.  Take the time to enjoy every moment, every second whether it is good or not so great.  Life is precious.

Handmade Cozy Holidays

I wanted to make something that I've never made before that would be useful and cute.  Because I have so much time in my hands, right?  When there was a blogger meet up scheduled last weekend, I thought up of making some mug cozies for my bloggy friends for the holidays.   Even though the mugs were festive with snowmen and snowflakes I wanted to add some more pizazz to it with the mug cozy. What do you think?
mugcozy2mugcozy3mugcozy4
I might have to make some more for some folks on my gifting list!  It's definitely a fun way to "dress up" a mug with a cozy sweater perfect for some hot cocoa, coffee, or tea.  Are you making any handmade gifts this holiday season?

When Bloggers Get Together

It's pretty much a great time when I get together with my fellow bloggers and meet new ones.  This time we went to Chowder Pot for lunch.  Lydia, Amber, Megan, Tiffiany, and I had a nice time talking about our holiday plans, time-off (if any), and Christmas shopping.   You know, the usual.  There were some delicious peppermint bark from Lydia and I gave everyone a mug with a crocheted cozy and a star ornament.  Yep, swag bags are always cool for meet-ups!
bloggers65bloggers64

It was a dreary and drizzly morning but by the time we finished our meals it stopped raining and we drove to the town green where the usual photo shoot happened with these gals.  These photos were courtesy of Lydia.

We then went to Coco's on the Green where everyone found some great and fabulous deals.  I didn't think I would find anything until I looked inside the glass display case by the cash register and saw a patent leather Kate Spade wallet.  I snatched it up for $18 plus 20% off!! Hello that's a bargain!  If you ask me, I'm pretty good at justifying why someone should purchase great finds.  So if you're on a tight budget or don't plan on buying anything, you might not want to go shopping with me. Then we went to Sarah's Cupboard where Lydia bought a great mirror and Megan bought a big slouchy sweater for a whopping $1!  Then there was the Cedar Chest where I was in hopes for finding something great since I had great luck last time....but alas with no luck I went home without anything.  Lydia found a great leather vest and Tiffany bought some shiny ballet flats.  Overall it was a fine afternoon of good food, fabulous and fashionable company, and great shopping.  Can't wait for the next time!

[Yay! This is my 200th post!]

Christmas Wish List

The gift giving spirit is definitely in the air.  Some of us are planning the game plan for how and when to hit the stores for some serious shopping.  There's also those who would rather peruse the Internet for some presents.  Either way, we are all in a time crunch.  Then there's some who do both.  BUT do we ever think of what we would like to get for Christmas?!  I just recently thought about it since my husband asked me.  Well, I really do not NEED anything because really I have everything that I need.  However, a girl can have a wish list too.  Here is just some of what I thought of as far as gadgets are concerned.   What is currently on your wish list?

Week In Pictures 32.0

wip32
1  I made my own crocheted Christmas banner which took me a while but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.  Not bad for just crochet-winging it...if that's even such a thing.

2  Time to get some "healthy" snacks.  These weren't so bad actually.  What's your favorite thing to snack on?

3  Happy with her holiday t-shirt

4  Squid display at the local museum lobby.  How much calamari would that make?!

5  Passed by downtown/Yale after the museum.  It was a pretty day.

6  By Friday I was already counting down the minutes to the end of the work day.  Yea, it was that kind of a week.

7  Blogger meet-ups are always fun.  Here's Megan of Closet Fashionista taking some outfit pics.  Check out her acrobatic moves!  Go Megan!

8  Nordstrom shopping ornament at where else, Nordstrom (I didn't buy it).

9 [This is supposed to be #8]  Enjoying the end of a great day with tea in my new owl holiday mug and some decadent peppermint bark from Lydia.

Where I'm From II

I don't remember when the last time I went to the Peabody Museum, but I had the chance to go this week.  I think I might have to go again because I wasn't able to see much of it.  As I drove through the downtown area, I realized I really should spend more time there and maybe do some more Christmas shopping at the usual shops.  It's just that the parking can be a pain.  I'll have to get over that one of these days if I want to get some gifts checked off my list!

Handmade Holidays

I always get excited when there's a new store in town.  This time, I stopped by Project Storefronts in the downtown area where they have all handmade products.  Local artisans have booths or should I say tables inside to display their wares.  There were handmade jewelry galore from steampunk designs, wire work, and even paper earrings to handmade clothing and accessories, drawn and painted artwork, and even vintage goods.  There's pretty much something for everyone.  Whether you're shopping for others or happen to like one yourself.  It was definitely worth stopping by.  Do you buy handmade during the holidays?

Oh Neimans

I got a little excited when I heard about the new Neiman Marcus and Target collaboration, and even discussed it with fellow bloggers when we'd be checking them out.  I looked at the list of famous designers who participated and it definitely sparked my interest, but then I saw the price of some of the items..holy cow!!  As a Target shopper, it was wee too over priced for someone like me.  For someone who often shops at Neiman Marcus, well it might seem like it's a steal!  Nonetheless, I went home empty handed.  Well, I didn't buy anything from the collection..but I probably got something else because let's face it, I always come home with something from Target.

Several things that caught my eye.  I really liked the Jason Wu ornaments and the Lela Rose top.
Have you seen the collection?  What do you think?

Week In Pictures 31.0

wip31
1  Our Christmas tree was finally up in the beginning of the week.

2  All of the stockings are hung....by the TV since we don't have a fireplace with a chimney.

3  Our other little Christmas tree, which is also Happy's tree.

4  Yarn covered ornaments.

5  Happy was definitely in need of grooming.

6  Happy's "after" picture.

7  Crocheted heart ornament.

8  Ventured off to Target to check out the Neiman Marcus collection.  I think I'm going to wait until they go on sale.

9  Went to a handmade pop up store in the downtown area.
